Phelps Creek Vineyards Pinot Noir Dragonfly Vineyard 2008

Took a chance when we visited #PhelpsCreekVineyards yesterday and picked up this #DragonflyVineyards #2008Vintage #PinotNoir because it has such a great story to tell. Chuck and Della Henderson pioneered #WineMaking in the tiny #ColumbiaGorgeAVA back in the ‘60s. This historic vineyard changed hands in the ‘90s, but contains the oldest #Pinot vines in the Gorge. Aged 24 months in French oak to coax a little more out of the fruit. Good job @phelpscreekvineyards
Clear, deep garnet, medium body. Slightly earthy bouquet of forest floor, damp earth and pine pitch. Bing cherries, raspberry and plum. Blackcurrant, mild pepper and spice. A bit tart, with noticeable minerality and moderate tannins. Off-dry, medium length finish. REALLY needs to open up before you can appreciate it. You can learn more about the Hendersons, who still live in White Salmon, WA, in this fascinating 2015 interview:
